Sewing Operative (Seamstress) 

Full time, 32 hours, four day week

At Glencraft, we craft premium beds and mattresses with care, skill, and a clear social purpose. We are looking for a capable Sewing Operative to join our sewing department, helping us meet daily production targets while maintaining the quality and finish our customers expect. 

The role 

You will carry out sewing and fabric related production activities within the sewing department, ensuring daily targets, quality standards, and health and safety requirements are consistently achieved. 

What you will do 

Sewing and fabric production
• Measure, cut, and sew fabric components for mattresses and divans, including covers and borders 
• Inspect sewn components for defects and ensure they meet our quality standards before moving to the next stage 

Machine care and housekeeping
• Maintain and clean sewing machines regularly to ensure they are in good working order 
• Keep the department tidy, organised, and working efficiently 

Teamwork and improvement
• Work closely with the Production Supervisor and Operations Manager to support smooth workflow and materials availability 
• Contribute ideas to improve production processes, efficiency, and quality 
• Carry out any reasonable additional tasks to support production flow and departmental needs 

Health and safety 

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment in line with company policies and procedures 
• Follow manual handling guidance and safe working practices for equipment use 
• Identify and report hazards or unsafe practices promptly 

What we are looking for 

Essential
• Experience in sewing, upholstery, or textile production 
• Ability to operate an industrial sewing machine 
• Good attention to detail and an understanding of quality standards 
• A positive and flexible approach to work and changing priorities 
• Reliable attendance and timekeeping 

Desirable
• Experience in mattress or upholstery manufacturing 
• Willingness to train in tape edging or additional production processes
